Ballıbaba, which is called "Lamium Album" in Latin, is from the family of honeybabagiller. It is native to Europe, Asia, and North Africa. It grows naturally in Giresun, Gümüşhane, Bayburt, Kars, Erzurum, Ağrı, Mersin and Hakkari provinces in our country. There are many types. Twenty-seven different species are grown in our country. It is an annual or biennial herbaceous plant with golden yellow, lilac, and white flowers from the beginning of May to the end of August.
Its leaves with notched edges are rough, dark green, and short stems are delicately hairy. The leaves are arranged diagonally with the next. It is known for its resemblance to stinging nettle. It has an eye-catching beauty with bunches of tiny florets coming together in a ring just above the petioles. It immediately attracts attention with its strong, pungent smell. The young leaves can be used in salads or cooked just like spinach. Despite its pleasant smell, it tastes bitter.
From the Ballıbaba plant; honeybaba tea, honeybaba oil, honeybaba paste, honeybaba tincture, honeybaba extract, and extract are produced.
