Sweetgum (Daily) (Styrax Liquidus)
Sweetgum (daily) oil has a brownish tahini color, honey consistency, sticky, dull, and matte texture. The ancient Egyptians used this balm in the mummification process. It showed its widest spread in Turkey, especially in Muğla, around Marmaris, Dalaman, Köyceğiz and Fethiye. During the Ottoman Empire, sweetgum oil was exported to Egypt. There are balsam channels on the lignified trunk of the sweetgum tree. Every two or three years, in summer, longitudinal slits are opened from each tree and the fragrant oil (balm) and bark of the tree are taken. The substance leaking from the wounds is collected by scraping with special blades. After this secretion and shells are boiled with hot water, they are squeezed in special presses to obtain the oil.
METHOD OF OBTAINING: Obtained using the cold pressing method.
